Kalpana Chawla was an Indian-born American astronaut and space shuttle mission specialist. She was one of seven crewmembers lost aboard Space Shuttle Columbia during mission STS-107 when the shuttle disintegrated upon reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere. Kalpana Chawla is a posthumous recipient of the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
Chawla, a Hindu, was born in Karnal, Haryana, India. Kalpana is a Sanskrit name meaning “idea” or “imagination.” Her interest in flight was inspired by J. R. D. Tata, a pioneering Indian pilot and industrialist.
Chawla joined the NASA astronaut corps in March 1995 and was selected for her first flight in 1996. Her first space mission began on November 19, 1997 as part of the six astronaut crew that flew the Space Shuttle Columbia flight STS-87. Chawla was the first Indian-born woman and the second person of Indian origin to fly in space, following cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma who flew in 1984 in a Soviet spacecraft. It must be noted that while Rakesh Sharma represented India, Chawla was an American astronaut who represented the United States. Sharma and Chawla never met despite their common interests.

Kangana Ranaut seems to be on seventh heaven as she wins the National award for best supporting actress in Fashion at the 56th National awards announced on Saturday.
An elated Kangana said, “There’s a mini-celebration in my house, though my parents were crying when they heard about it. At 23 I seem to have cracked the highest cultural award for the country. What more can I do? I should just pack up and go back to my home in Himachal now with my parents.”
Not only her parents, but her fans too are overjoyed at her achievement. In fact, a Delhi-based fan of hers, Sameer, sent her a huge gift hamper to congratulate her for her National Award win. The hamper contained three boxes – one that had 22 wine bottles, one with 22 cakes of different types and sizes, and one with 22 accessories like earrings, bangles, bracelets, etc.
Attached to the gift hamper was a note from the fan which read, “22 because you are 22-year-old and a National Award is no mean achievement at such a young age.”
What more can a 22 year old actress ask for?

Hadiqa Kiani is a Pakistani pop singer. After working on a successful music project with Adnan Sami, Kiani released her successful debut album, Raaz. After a musical ban imposed on her from the government, Kiani successfully returned to the music scene with her second album, Roshni, which remains her best selling album to date and helped establish her as a musical icon and the country’s leading female vocalist.
Kiani was born on August 11. She is the youngest of 3 siblings. Her father died when she was 3 years old. Kiani recalls the experience of losing her father in a talk show called Heart to Heart on ARY. She said it was very difficult for a few years for her family as issues had risen after her father’s death. However, her mother was very brave throughout their upbringing, she added. Her mother Khawar was a principal of a government “all-girls” school while Kiani and her older siblings were growing up.
Kiani came onto TV to host a children musical program from PTV called Angan Angan Taray. In the three and a half year long run, she sang over a thousand songs for children. Kiani appeared as a playback singer for a musical movie called Sargam in 1994. Same year, she received awards for her playback singing.
